Muscovy Ducklings are here........
The last two days have been filled with the hatchings of our Muscovy Ducks. Pebbles now has 13 little wonderful ducklings that are running wild in the coop. It's hard to believe how different they are when hatched with their mother rather than hatched in our incubator, which we only do when one of the birds abandons their nest. At two days old, they already like to play in their water dish!
Pebbles makes sure we keep our distance as she hisses and makes her "raptor growl", but today I have the sad task of removing them from the coop. Several of them have new homes that they will be going to on Monday. The rest will be in the nursery until they find their forever families.
Our fine little fluffed friends enjoying the water pan!
Momma protecting her babies as I decide how I'm ever going to take them from her so they can meet their new families.
I just came in from checking on the ducklings and to my marvelous surprise, It looks like Bam Bam's clutch is beginning to arrive! She is sitting on 15 eggs and hopefully all the ducklings will be here soon. I will make sure to take pictures and updates will follow because I have 3 more ducks sitting! Pip and Snow are sharing duties, and I have yet to get a real count on the eggs that they are covering. Those ducklings are due to join in us in about 8 days. Then there is Goose who is actually sitting in a nesting box protecting 12 little eggs for two more weeks.
Bam Bam bathed, spruced and ready for the arrival of her little ones!
I couldn't help but keep two from our first clutch of ducklings so that our family of Muscovy Ducks will continue to grow. These two special little buggers are turning out to be beautifully marked and unlike any we have.
Meet our newest family members Poppy and Dexter!
Well, I am off to check on our Silkies. We have three hens that began brooding about 2 weeks ago, and we are anxiously awaiting their arrival!
