Babydoll Sheep
SOuthdown babydoll sheep
This breed of Olde English sheep were bred in America to reflect their ancient wooly ancestors. They are a polled breed (meaning they do not have horns) known for their fantastic wool and tender meat. And while we at Black Oak Hollow do not raise them for their meat (eek!), we do raise them for their wool, which is known to be extremely soft and bouncy. Their wool has a micron count ranging from 24 to 29, and this means that it is great for crafting sweaters and other wearables because it isn’t as rough or scratchy as typical wool. We are beginning a journey into creating a dryer ball from their wool.
We have had people purchase the wool for various things, such as; insulation, dryer balls, felting, composting, dog beds, crafting ideas, roving and a few for yarn.
Their coats range from off white and cinnamon brown to mousey grey and rich brown. But are described as either off white or black.
